By default, family trees use a narrow layout called "Simple". It tries to arrange family members in such a way that they are center-aligned.

As your family tree grows and has multiple generations, this layout may be too narrow for easy visualization. To help in such a situation, you may use different placement method, like "Wide". This can be changed in the "Shapes and Layout" action.
